was on the lookout for a place that is reminiscent of our favorite date restaurant in manila, old swiss inn. it was the resto where H committed a few first date missteps (grin); as well as the place where we discussed marriage seriously before talking to my mom about it the next day.
chalet is apparently an old favorite in kuala lumpur, though this is the first time H and i tried it. it's dimly lit and very cozy, with only about 16 tables, most of which are set-up with comfortable couches against the wall. when we walked in, there was a string trio playing music for the patrons, and the servers were very sharp and polished.
i made the commitment to shoot everything with my nifty fifty, and thankfully, the H has already signed the marriage contract, so he just sat back and let me do my obsessive thing. =)
ordered the classic stuff -- wild forest mushroom soup, escargot, raclette (yum yum yum), and beef fondue, and walked away 120% full after squishing in a couple of desserts.
i loved watching the servers scrape off the melted cheese from the mound of heated raclette. it gets me salivating every single time. they didn't have a dessert menu, so it was also cute watching the cart move around the floor as patrons requested for dessert. the string trio played "anak" (a quintessential filipino song), which confirmed my suspicion that they're filipino. =) quite pricey, but it was overall a great experience.

you captured the ambience of the restaurant so well, the pics make me want to go there right now! i assume yr nifty fifty is the 50mm f/1.4? i can only afford its cheaper sibling the 50mm f/1.8 boohoo :P
hi sleepless, thanks! yes, i'm using the 50mm f1.4. i love my fixed lenses for available light shooting. note that i don't shoot 1.4 all the time though. usually, i move it up to 1.8 or 2.0, to manage the depth of field. so don't knock the 1.8! =)
that looks like a nice place to go! got to start visiting restaurants again! :)
need a nifty fifty for myself as well.
hi steph, curious as what body you use? D700? D3? D300?
hi xave. =) i'm using a D700.
