day 302 | july 15, 2009 | Roman baths and Jane Austen

this beautiful place developed into a city more than 2,000 years ago solely because of the hot springs and the roman spa built around it. named by the romans "aquae solis," it was considered as a place of worship and healing, dedicated to the goddess minerva. in the georgian era (during the days of jane austen), this was a place to be seen, Britain's most fashionable health resort.

day 300 | july 14, 2009 | Stonehenge

Blessed with a gentle sun and beautiful clouds, we drove from Surrey to Wiltshire so that I could see the Stonehenge for the first time. At the risk of sounding like a fan girl who finally sees her favorite celebrity in person, I thought the stonehenge would be taller.

day 298 | july 13, 2009 | Surrey

Instead of setting up base camp in London, we decided to stay in a charming Surrey bed & breakfast instead. I found this thatch house by surfing around with the intention of finding something as authentically British as possible, and I'm happy to say it was a great find. To quote their page, Long Copse B&B is "a lovely arts & crafts house set high in the surrey hills."
