day 690 | october 11, 2013 | Il Lido

On the Martini Glass: Amuse Bouche of foamy Mushroom Cappuccino,
followed by Smoked Cheese Risotto and Truffle
A dinner date with H at Il Lido in Sentosa. The last time we were in this same restaurant, we were at a troubled juncture in our relationship. It's a good sign that we can both easily joke about it now. If there's one thing I love most about H, it's that even in our fiercest of fights, we can still somehow look at ourselves and laugh.

This time around, the mood was much lighter. He had just gotten back from a two-week business trip in Geneva, and I was looking for therapy in the form of either orgasmic food, or massage. Food won out. Lucky for us, there were still Restaurant Week seats for Il Lido. Usually, it would be among the first restaurants to be fully booked.

Restaurant Week happens twice a year, every March and October, and is fast becoming a good reminder to make space to re-connect without the kids in tow. Our usual date is a late night movie, so it's good to mix it up once in a while. If you wish to catch some of the top Singapore restaurants at a deal, do watch out for their registration the month before. Last year, we've tried out Table at 7, and more recently, Taratata Bistrot and Stellar at 1-Altitude.

Veal Cheek Ravioli with Truffle
Roasted Goose Liver with Marsala and Pistachios (Hard act to follow.)
Prime Beef Tenderloin with Chanterelles, Medium Rare
(The Chanterelle mushrooms didn't really work for me.)
4 out of our 5 courses were fabulous, as expected. Sadly, it was the main dish that slipped. Perhaps it would have been better if I'd chosen the cod instead of steak. But I'd have to admit that anything after the goose liver would have paled in comparison. Surprisingly, the dessert managed to make up for the gap. All in all, a beautiful meal. (Super proud that I was able to apply sufficient self-control to shoot the food before gobbling!)
Hazelnut Coulant with Gianduja Gelato -- oozy creamy goodness!
